La costa

La scelsero i Greci alla fine del VIII sec. a.C. e da allora ancora incanta per le sue distese di sabbia fine, del colore dell'oro. La costa della Basilicata che si affaccia sul Mar Ionio è una delle mete preferite per chi vuol trascorrere una vacanza estiva nelle terre del Mediterraneo. La spiaggia ampia, le acque pulite e i bassi fondali, sono l'ideale per le famiglie con bambini. Ma anche per chi vuol lasciarsi accompagnare dal rumore della risacca e dal calore dei raggi del sole, o per chi vuol sfidare il vento e praticare il surf.

Da Metaponto alla Marina di Pisticci, passando per Scanzano lonico e poi per Policoro, fino a Rotondella e a Nova Siri: lidi attrezzati, lunghe passerelle che accompagnano fin sull'arenile, grandi villaggi turistici, alberghi, case al mare, bed and breakfast ed agriturismi, coniugano a meraviglia il desiderio di mare, la voglia di una vacanza all'insegna del relax all'aria aperta, ma anche del divertimento e della cultura.

It goes From Metaponto to the Marina of Pisticci,passing through Scanzano Ionico and then Policoro,up to Rotondella and Nova Siri:equipped beaches and the long paths that reach to the sandy shore,the great tourist resorts,hotels beach houses,bed and breakfast and agritourism establishments perfectly satisfy the desire for the sea and for a relaxing outdoor vacation,as well as entertainment and culture.

Non solo mare

A Metaponto, antica colonia greca, sono visitabili le famose Tavole Palatine, tempio extraurbano dedicato a Hera, simbolo della città. All'interno del Parco Archeologico si possono ammirare resti di mura, un teatro costruito su terrapieno artificiale, la necropoli di Crucinia e quattro templi:il tempio dedicato ad Atena che è il più antico, il tempio di Apollo, i resti del tempio di Hera in stile dorico e il tempio dedicato ad Afrodite.

Da non perdere, il Museo Archeologico Nazionale, dove attraverso una selezione qualificata di circa 2000 reperti si possono ripercorrere le fasi di vita dell'antica Metapontum, a partire dalla Preistoria sino al periodo tardo antico. Recandosi nella vicina Policoro, oltre al Museo della Siritide e al Parco Archeologico è possibile fare una sosta alla Riserva Regionale Bosco Pantano- Oasi del WWF, un angolo di Eden a ridosso del mare dove visitare il Centro Recupero Animali Selvatici (CRAS) e praticare differenti attività organizzate dal Centro di Educazione Ambientale (CEA), quali passeggiate nel bosco, cavalcate sulla spiaggia, tiro con l'arco, sport acquatici come canoa e barca a vela e, per gli appassionati, bird watching.

Not just the sea
The ancient Greek colony Metaponto contains the famous Tavole Palatine,an extraurban temple dedicated to Hera the symbol of the city.Inside the Archaelogical Park,it is possible to admire the remains of a wall,a theathre built on artificial ground,the necropolis of Crucinia and four temples:a temple dedicated to Athena,which is the most ancient,the temple of Apollo,the remains of the temple of Hera in Doric style and a temple dedicated to Aphrodite.

The National Archaeological Museum should not be missed,where a fine collection of finds from around 2000 excavations make it is possible to retrace the life of ancient Metapontum,which existed from Prehistoric to late ancient times.In nearby Policoro,beyond the Museum of the Siritide and the Archaeological Park,it is possible to stop at the Pantano Regional Forest Reserve – a WWF Oasis that is a corner of Eden next to the sea where it is possible to visit ( CRAS ) the Recovery Centre for Wild Animals and practice different activities organized by the Enviromental Education Centre ( CEA ),such as walks in the forest,horseback riding on the beach,archery water sports such as canoeing and sailing,and even bird watching for enthusiasts.
